By Laura Novey and David Zimmermann
In the summer of 2023, I was hoping to put together a resource for people who had recently put their faith in Jesus. The resource was to be based on a sermon series I had preached that year on the book of Romans. Needless to say, autumn rolled around, and I was on to a new preaching series. It was then the Lord had Laura Novey come into mind as someone who could help.
Laura has a gift of allowing the Holy Spirit to speak through her writing in a very understandable way. Laura had written many encouraging emails to me which were all based on Scripture. I had also read some of the excellent discipleship materials she had written over the years, so when my self-imposed deadline for my resource came and went, I approached Laura. The result is the book you can download free of charge from this website, or you can pick up a paper copy from River Valley Alliance Church in Watertown.
Through this little book, our prayer is that the Holy Spirit will remind you of who you are and who God has made you to be because you have placed your faith in Christ. The book is very basic, but without proper understanding of these elementary concepts, people's faith journeys can get terribly messed up. Followers of Jesus forget who they are in Christ. They plot a course of self-improvement and strive to polish up their exteriors so they look good on the outside, but all the while they forget that Jesus has already made them beautiful on the inside and they need to let this beauty out. It is our prayer that a proper foundation for your spiritual house will be laid by reading this book.
I Believe: What Happened? is and will always be free of charge. We want to thank an anonymous donor for paying for the book's publishing and Earl Martin for donating his time and talent to design the cover and illustrations. We pray that the Holy Spirit would use our work to help you on your spiritual journey with Jesus.
